Lough Derg Yacht ClubEnjoying sailing in Dromineer since 1835 |
The Squib is a popular one-design racing keel sailboat, sailed across Ireland and the UK, with over 20 boats in LDYC. It is a perfect boat for the club because of it's fantastic versatility and suitability for the waters of Lough Derg. It sails like a dinghy (6m long) and Squib racing is famously competitive, close and exciting. The Squib's fin keel makes it ideal for day cruising across Lough Derg being continuously able to make way in light winds and remaining upright in heavy winds. A Squib sailor is rarely left standing on the shore not being able to sail. It is typically sailed by two people with both the helm and crew actively sharing the sailing of a main, jib and spinnaker sail. SQUIB SAILING SCHEDULE
