LOCAL INFORMATION
Lough Derg Yacht Club is located in the village of Dromineer, c. 10kms north west of the Town of Nenagh, and on the eastern Tipperary shore of Lough Derg.
Dromineer Village
A small village in North Tipperary, Ireland. It is situated on the shores of Lough Derg on the River Shannon. The village is located 10 kilometers north west of Nenagh. It is a civil parish in the historical barony of Ormond Lower. Home to an 11th century tower house, idyllic scenery, a public harbour and other facilities, it is a popular place to visit, especially for those out boating on the lake.
The name Dromineer in Irish is "Drom Inbhir", meaning the back or the ford of the river. The Nenagh River flows out into Lough Derg at Dromineer.
Amenities in Dromineer include a public marina and harbour, one restaurant and pub (The Whiskey Still), some holiday accommodation (Holiday Homes and Hostel Accommodation) and a children's playground. The nearest shop is in Ballycommon, 5km's on the road to Nenagh.
Dromineer is home to the Lough Derg Lifeboat, which is the RNLI's third inland lifeboat station and the first in Ireland.
LDYC On site facilities
LDYC has a purpose built new clubhouse, completed in 2000, which essentially is a large downstairs area, housing an event bar, and office, full catering kitchen, and toilet facilities. Upstairs is the club room and balcony giving uninterrupted views out onto Lough Derg. It also has a small bar/serving area for the smaller events. Changing rooms and washing/shower facilities are in adjacent buildings, one located near the camp site, the other near the castle boatshed
The club facilities are extensive, centered around a private harbour, with 2 mooring areas to the left (Castle Boatshed) and right (Mogul Jetty and "Hippo" Pond). Around the club harbour are secure boat parking space for up to 150 dinghies, almost all of which have immediate lake access, but there are also 2 launching slips and 3 jetties on which boats can be temporarily left afloat.
Shoreside, as well as the Clubhouse, there are several sheds, one for the members lake fishing boats, the "Sail Shed" in which sails and other boat equipment is stored, the "Castle Boat Shed" where our rescue fleet and some RIBs are stored in the water.
LDYC has a small campsite with shower block, and some hard standing areas for caravans and motor homes. Some but not all have connections for electricity and water.
Most of the clubs in the water boat parking is taken up by the membership, so occasional berthing for visiting cruisers and barges can be accommodated on a first come basis.

Club bar is normally open during events after sailing and in the evenings
During a weekend event there is normally a meal available in the club on the Saturday night, booking in advance. For a longer event there is often an excellent value "meal deal" available. See event information for details specific to that event.

Waterside Cottages has 11 Holiday Cottages in their own grounds adjacent to the Yacht Club, each home accommodates up to 6 persons.
Lough Derg Hostel is located beside the Yacht Club it provides over-night accommodation, breakfasts for non-residents and has a café open during the day. Homemade bread and scones can be purchased.

The Public Harbour and Marina in the village now has power points.
The local (Dromineer) shop opening times are erratic and mainly sell soft drinks, chocolate and ice cream. Closed in winter. There is a local shop ("Tony's Tipp Top Shop") in Ballycommon village, c. 5 km's on the road to Nenagh which itself, as the local market town, has all the shops and supermarkets you will need.
